Abstract

876,098. Transferring freight containers to and from vehicles. DEMPSTER BROS. Inc. May 20, 1959 [Jan. 24, 1958], No. 17100/59. Class 78 (4). Containers 4 to be loaded on to a vehicle are provided with pairs 29, 30 of hooks at A, B, C, D the hooks 29 being successively engaged by a bail 20 pivotally mounted on a wheeled carriage 13 which is by means of an hydraulic ram 16, 17, reciprocated on guides 12 of a frame 5 pivoted to the chassis at 7. In loading a container on to the vehicle, the bail 20 is prevented from engaging hooks 30 by pivoted levers 31 and in unloading, the bail engages successively the hooks 30 to push the container off the frame 5. The container may be provided with telescopic legs 44, 45, Fig. 19, which are extended by means of fluid pressure to engage the ground and to raise the container from the frame 5.
