Abstract
875,979. Travelling wave tubes. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. June 13, 1960 [June 11, 1959], No. 20635/60. Class 39(1). An electron beam is positioned in a travelling wave or other electron beam tube -by a permanently magnetised or magnetisable member disposed in the vicinity of means for producing a magnetic focusing field the member surrounding the tube envelope and being formed in a plurality of parts the boundaries between the parts being in the axial direction of the beam the parts being relatively movable axially and are movable together around the periphery of the envelope. As shown the positioning means comprises two semi-cylinders 5, 6, Fig. 2 surrounding the gun of the travelling wave tube which has a helix slow wave structure. The semicylinders are magnetised by the fringe field of the focusing coil surrounding the helix and centre the beam on the axis of the helix. The ferromagnetic member may be in more than two parts.
