Abstract
875,263. Travelling-wave tubes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 30, 1959 [Aug. 15, 1958], No. 26347/58. Class 39(1). A crossed field microwave electron tube comprises a slow wave structure 4 for amplifying the signal and a preliminary slow wave structure 9, on the opposite side of the beam path, for attenuating noise in the beam. Slow wave structure 9 is connected at either end to matched lossy terminations 11 and 12. Slow wave structure 4 may be a ladder type line supporting a forward travelling wave or an interdigital line. supporting a backward wave. The structures may be linear as shown, or arcuate. The dispersion characteristic of the noise attenuating structure may correspond with that of the amplifying structure and the tube used as a broad band amplifier or oscillator.
