875,165. Drying apparatus. SOC. ITALIANA ESSICCATOI. Aug. 29, 1957 [Sept. 3, 1956; Sept. 21, 1956], No. 27264/57. Class, 34(2) In a drier with circular superposed drying floors each floor is swept by hot air issuing from an oscillating nozzle. In the drier shown having fixed perforated floors 1 ... 4, Fig. 1, mounted within a cylindrical casing A, hot air from a conduit 18 is introduced to the soaces between the floors 2, 3 and 4 through nozzles 23, 24, 25, oscillating about a shaft 26 oscillated through a suitable eccentric connection by a motor driven shaft 9. At the limits X, Y, Fig 2, of its amplitude each nozzle directs air tangentially into the casing A and an air seal between the nozzle and its supply conduit 19, 20 or 21, is effected by hinged side fins 30 guided by oscillatable arms 32. A fan 22 withdraws the moisture laden air from the drier. The shaft 9 rotates paddle sets 10, 12, 14, 15, rotation of the set 10 also effecting movement of a paddle 7 in a channel 6 which is supplied with moist material through an inlet 5. The paddles 10, 14, cause the material to move over the floors 1, 3, towards central outlet arrangements comprising cylindrical adjustable 'weirs' 35, Fig. 3, whilst the paddles 12, 16, move the material to peripheral outlets having adjustable plate 'weirs' 39. Dried material is discharged at 17. In a modified apparatus B, Fig. 5, for drying pasty materials and slurries and having perforated floors 45, 50, 54, 61, 65, 66, the material is fed on to the top floor 45 through perforated arms 44 rotating with the paddles 63, 67, 68, 79 and press members in the form of tapered rollers 46, 51, 55, also rotating with the paddles, are associated with the upper floors 45, 50, 54. Moisture laden air is withdrawn by fans 74, 75, the air from the latter being returned to the supply means feeding the air inlet conduit 49 for eventual recirculation. In a further embodiment the floors associated with the tapered rollers are rotated with the paddles whilst the rollers are connected through their supporting arms to the drier casing. The perforated material feed arms 44 are also stationary.
