Abstract
875,033. Applying re-inforcing tape. YOSHIDA, T. March 18, ; 1958, No. 8660/58. Class 73. [Also in Group XXV] An apparatus for, welding reinforcement to a sliding clasp fastener stringer tape and for cutting off lengths of tape with teeth, comprises an air motor M secured on a frame 34, a hose 2 connecting the air motor by way of a foot operated valve 1 with a source of compressed air, the air motor comprising a piston 11 loaded by a spring 14 and movable in a cylinder 13, a cutting and stamping punch 37 driven by the piston and provided internally with electric heating means 19, a return spring (not shown) for the frame 12, a. support 17 on which the punch is adapted to act and having means 28 for positioning - tape provided with a welded reinforcement to be cut,. the support being positioned above a sole plate 29 and separated therefrom by a spring 25, electric heating means 20 within the support and means 35 for locating the position at which the reinforcement is applied. In use the reinforcement and a nylon tape are folded round the stringer tape in the means 35 which is a bracket by an operative using a thumb and finger and the stringer tape is then placed on the support 17 and when the valve 1 is opened the piston forces the punch 37 downwards so that the stringer tape is first cut to length by the co-action of the punch and a cutter on the support 17. The reinforcement is then stuck to the stringer tape by the Explication of heat and pressure from the heaters, 19, 20 and the co-action of the punch 37 and support 17. The heat liquefies the nylon tape which is placed between the reinforcement and the stringer tape in the means 35 bracket and this sticks the reinforcement to the tape. The means bracket 35 is provided with two locating portions so that the two reinforcements will be opposite each other on the two stringer tapes of a complete fastener despite the necessary different spacing of'the reinforcement from the fastener teeth. The locating means 28 is . also adapted for use with both stringers of a complete fastener.
