Abstract
874,997. Latches. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. Jan. 11, 1960 [Jan. 8, 1959], No. 709/59. Class 44. Relates to fastening devices of the type in which two parts between which relative angular and translatory movement occurs during a fastening operation, one of which parts is urged in the angular sense towards and into a relative coupling position and requires the application of a positive turning movement during a releasing operation. According to the invention, the two parts each comprise two separate portions, two of which initially engage during the translatory movement to produce relative angular movement of the parts in the uncoupling direction and the other two portions enter into coupling engagement at the end of the fastening operation. As shown, applied to a vehicle door latch a stationary keeper part 1 is provided with projecting portions 5, 6 and 7, and a bolt part 3 which is rotatable against spring loading about an axis 4 is provided with projecting portions 8 and 9. The arrangement is such that during translatory movement of the parts 1 and 3, the parts move to a safety lock position, Fig. 2 and thereafter to the coupling position shown in Fig. 3. A fixed member 24 incorporating a spring loaded wedge 26 provides restraint, in the coupling position, in a direction transverse to the fastening direction. The latch is operable externally of the door by a push-button (not shown) which acts along a line A ..... A Fig. 5 on a lever 34 which in turn displaces a cam plate 30 carried by the part 3. The cam plate is also movable internally of the door by a lever 44 a portion 47 of which bears on a portion 48 of the cam plate 30. A locking portion 49 on the lever 44 co-operates with the lever 34 when the lever 44 is moved in the opposite direction to that for releasing the latch, to block operation by the push button. Specifications 864,305 and 871,895 are referred to.
