873,538. Ultrasonic inspection devices. HOWE SOUND CO. May 4, 1960 [May 12, 1959], No. 15815/60. Class 40(7) Liquid level is measured by indicating the amplitude of a wave after multiple reflexion between opposing faces of a member 10 in contact with the liquid. Reflected pulse amplitude 30 is indicated on a cathode-ray tube 25. In another embodiment separate transmitting and receiving transducers at the two ends of a member are provided and pulse or frequency-modulated continuous waves may be used, Fig. 2 (not shown). Member 10 may be replaced by the side walls of the vessel if these are parallel.
