872,962. Friction clutches. VEHICULES INDUSTRIELS ET D'EQUIPEMENTS MECANIQUES SAVIEM-LRS S.A. DE. Sept. 3, 1959 [Sept. 4, 1958], No. 30091/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a friction clutch or brake (clutch only shown) between a shaft 1 and a freely-mounted sleeve 2 and having friction-faced segments 9 carried by pins 12 in a groove 8 in a shaft 1 (o r sleeve 2) and expanded (or contracted) radially into engagement with the sleeve 2 (or shaft 1) by pressure-fluid applied at 16, the ends of the segments are bevelled to form V-grooves therebetween, in which spring-pressed rollers 13 engage to form a fluid-tight seal. The clutch is disengaged by supplying pressure fluid at 22. In the contracting form, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the segments are disengaged by centrifugal force for a clutch or by springs for a brake.
