Abstract
872,961. Removing metallic coatings from plastics. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925) Ltd. Jan. 27, 1960 [Jan. 5, 1959], No. 367/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 41. The metallic coating is removed from selected areas of a metallised plastics strip by obscuring with a covering all except the selected areas, passing the strip through a suitable electrolyte and applying a potential difference between the metallic coating on the strip and an electrode immersed in the electrolyte, the covering being in intimate contact with the obscured portion of the strip during the passage of the strip through the electrolyte, so that the metallization is removed electrolytically from the unobscured areas. The covering may be constituted by a coating such as a nitrocellulose varnish or it may be a masking element which may also form the means for driving the strip through the bath, e.g. an endless conveyer belt.
