Class 23 [Also in Group XX] In an apparatus for extracting samples of gas borne flue dust from a flue 3, a base plate 1 secured to the flue wall supports a hollow probe 4 extending. within the flue to a nozzle 5 which faces upstream of the gas flow and has its other end connected to a cyclone dust separator 6, the wall of which may be heated by an electric element (not shown) to prevent condensation thereon from gases of high moisture content, the extracted dust being collected in a container 14, e.g. a glass jar, secured in air-tight fashion by a stirrup 15 against a compressible washer 19, whilst the extracted flue gases pass upwardly through a tubular connection 7 having at its end an adjustable nozzle 8 axially aligned with a Venturi throat 9 which is also carried by the plate 1 and extends into the flue, its end portion 10 being located to the right side of the nozzle 5, to avoid interference and sloped towards the base plate 1 considered in the direction of the gas flow. By adjustment of the nozzle 8 a gas flow which has a velocity substantially equal to that in the flue is induced through the cyclone 6.
