Abstract

872,577. Friction gearing. ANDERSON CO. Sept. 23, 1958 [Oct. 2, 1957], No. 30323/58. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXV] Gearing for the power operation of vehicle or other doors comprises planetary rollers 32 between a driving sun roller 24 and an annulus 35, the rollers 32 being carried by a cage 27 secured to a driven shaft 12 which has arms 15, 15 for connection to the door actuating linkage. The annulus 35 is normally free to allow of manual operation of the door but on energization of a motor 18 for power operation a solenoid 58 is also energized to apply a brake band 44 to the annulus 35 to hold it so that a drive is transmitted to shaft 12. The annulus 35 also includes races 39, 43 for the rollers 32 which are loaded by a spring 42 so that on a predetermined torque being exceeded the rollers 32 will slip.
