872,011. Coin-freed vending apparatus. CONFISERIE BRABO S.A. Jan. 23, 1958 [Feb. 11, 1957], No. 2356/58. Class 27 A coin-freed dispenser for more than one kind of commodity comprises a housing 12 incorporating a main chamber 22, Fig. 6, and auxiliary chambers 26, 28, a rotary dispensing plate 154 for a first commodity 24 in the chamber 22, means for rotating this plate, and a reciprocating dispensing plate 190 for a second commodity 30 in each of the auxiliary chambers 26, 28, the plate 190 being drivingly connected with the rotary plate 154. The housing 12 incorporates a rectangular flanged die-cast base 14, Fig. 1, recessed to take the bottom edges of a sheetmetal closure 20 which is partitioned to form the central chamber 22 for the first commodity (e.g. ball-gum) and side chambers 26, 28 for the second commodity, such as printed cards 30. A die-cast top 54, also recessed to take the top edges of the enclosure 20 and the front and back panels 118 and 42, 44, Fig. 8, is secured by laterally-extending locking-levers 76 which are moved to engage slots in the partition walls and are lockable in that position by a cylinder lock 68. The back panels 44 are removable to give access to the chambers 26, 28 for the replenishment of stacked cards 30 but the central chamber is loaded from the top; in either case the top 54 must first be unlocked and removed. A lockable panel at the back of the housing 12 provides access to the coin receptacle below the central chamber 22. The front 110 of the housing 12 has a centrally-located glass panel 112 and carddispensing slots 114 opposite the bases of the chambers 26, 28. A die-cast front plate 118 with an opening for the panel 112 is also provided with openings 124 for glass panes 126 arranged for display of the cards to be dispensed. Adjustable gates 132 are provided for the setting of the slot-opening. A bed-plate 32 forming the bases of the chambers 22, 26, 28 has a centrallylocated platform 148 with a bearing boss for the shaft 152, Fig. 9, of the rotary dispensing plate 154. Two diametrically-opposed openings 158, Fig. 8, are provided in downwardly-directed bosses 160 in the plate 154. Agitator lugs 162 urge the ball-gum towards the openings 158 and, as they register with the dispensing shoot 176, Fig. 8, a ball of gum is discharged to a hinged closure 178 which is raised to deliver the commodity; a shield 180 with inclined walls prevents direct access to the chamber 22 and a projection therefrom obscures the opening 158 nearest the exit from the shoot 176. Gear teeth 164 on the periphery of the plate 154 are engaged by those of a pinion 166 rotatable by a handle 172 after a coin has been inserted in a slot 174 to free the mechanism. The reciprocating dispensing plates are alternately moved towards the front of the housing to dispense the cards through mechanism comprising bellcranks 242, Fig. 9, operated by a laterally movable link 240 connecting their inner ends, one being coupled by a drag link 238 to a crank 236 which is rotated through gears 224, 226 by the shaft 152 of the rotatable dispensing plate. The outer ends of the cranks 242 are engaged by spaced projections 198, Fig. 11, formed on the underside of the shuttles 190, on the slightly inclined surfaces of which the cards 30 are stacked with their rear edges in contact with vertically-adjustable stops or pick-off portions 220 of the shuttle caps 210; the adjustment allows for the dispensing of thicker cards, or thinner cards two at a time, the delivery slot or slots being adjusted to suit by re-setting the position of the members 132. A follower-weight is imposed on each stack of cards and has a leaf spring on its upper surface which engages with the inner surface of the front wall 110 to prevent inadvertent upward movement of the follower weight, which is thus wedged against the wall of the housing.
