Abstract

Titanium or titanium-base alloy articles are treated with hydrogen at a temperature of at least 600 DEG C., preferably 600 DEG -1000 DEG C., prior to the deposition of a coating of metal thereon. Before treatment with hydrogen, the articles may be subjected to a pickling or de-scaling bath. The coating metal may be platinum, rhodium or iridium or an alloy of two or more thereof: the electrodeposition of platinum is specifield. It is stated that the treatment with hydrogen etches the titanium surface. Specification 758,013 is referred to.
