871,074. Indicating-apparatus; dynamometers; pressure-gauges. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. Oct. 11, 1957 [Oct. 23, 1956], No. 31870/57. Classes 106 (2) and 106 (4). A dynamometer comprises a load cell 1 and device for indicating forces absorbed thereby in which the restoring spring 13 is assisted by a supplementary restoring force which becomes smaller with an increasing deflection of the indicator. A force applied to the load cell causes pressure fluid to flow into the cylinder 5 and depress the piston 6 against the combined forces of the spring 13 and electromagnet 8, turning the pointer 16 over the scale 18 through rack-and-pinion. The arrangement is such that without a force acting on the load cell, the armature 12 rests against a plate 9 without exerting any upward pressure and the pointer 16 registers with the zero mark 21a. It is stated that, as an increasing force is applied, the magnetic restoring force falls off at a rate which compensates for the non-linearity of the response which would occur without it. In a second embodiment the spring 13 is replaced by a pivoted counterweight and the supplementary magnetic force is applied through a pulley fixed on the pivot of the counterweight.
