Abstract
870,806. Valves. PARKER-HANNIFIN CORPORATION. Jan. 7, 1958, No. 559/58. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVI] A pressure or remotely actuated piston valve for distributing fuel to the burners of jet engines comprises a spring-biased plunger 25 subjected to pressure from an inlet port 11 and controlling the flow through a number of accurately made slots 18 in the cylinder wall to corresponding outlet ports 13, in accordance with inlet pressure or, if this is not sufficient, by supplying fluid pressure through a port 60 to actuate a spring-biased piston 51 having a plunger operating rod 50. The plunger cylinder comprises a first tubular part 14 and a second tubular part 15 having an end surface with a number of slots 18 therein closely abutting an end surface on the first part. To prevent the plunger sticking, a small amount of liquid is tapped from the inlet and via a tubular filter 31, and passages 33, 34 is fed into a circumferential groove 37 in the inner face of the sleeve part 15 where it then seeps along the sliding surface of the plunger, the liquid flowing inwards collecting in a groove 40 in the liner part 15 before discharging in substantially equal amounts through the adjacent slots 18 and the liquid flowing outwards is afforded much greater resistance by annular ribs 41 on the plunger before it collects in the space 38 and flows to one of the slots 18 through a groove 39 in the outer face of the sleeve part 15.
