Abstract

870,486. Pushing jacks. DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd. Oct. 27, 1958 [Oct. 31, 1957], No. 34051/57. Class 78 (3). In a device for moving mining machinery, such as conveyers, a reaction strut 1-6, pivoted at 8 to a base frame 11, is forced into engagement with a mine roof on initial extension of an hydraulic ram 22 which is attached at one end to the conveyer through a lug 23 and is connected at its other end to strut leg 6 by a link 25. Shroud 28 protects the ram from damage by falling debris. The base frame 11 comprises a pair of spaced plough-shaped side members connected by bars 12, 19 and 20, and is so constructed that it moves freely over the mine floor without collecting debris beneath the strut. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown), the lower ends of base side plates are shaped to rock on the mine floor as the ram is extended and contracted.
