Class 100(4) [Also in Group XXIV] Continuous stationery is fed through a tabulator, typewriter, addressing or similar machines by a motor caused to be running before the feed is required and then clutched to the feed means to give a predetermined length of feed. As described the stationery is fed by tractors at the infeed and outfeed side of the platen and the clutch is controlled to give single or multiple line spacing. A feed signal I causes a rotary solenoid RS to actuate the clutch momentarily to effect a single line spacing. At the same time a relay R operates to close contacts f, g but with the rotor S 1 of a selector switch S in the position shown no positive is on any of the contacts a<SP>2</SP>-d<SP>2</SP> and the contacts f, g immediately open. If the selector rotor S <SP>1</SP> is set to any of the positions II, III, IV, VI, which setting must be effected while the discs a-d are in the position shown a positive will be on one of the contacts a<SP>2</SP>-d<SP>2</SP> providing a holding circuit to the relay R to keep the contacts f, g closed. The solenoid RS will continue to operate the stationery feed and the discs a-d will rotate in synchronism therewith until a notch of the selected disc allows its contact arm to break the appropriate contact a<SP>2</SP>-d<SP>2</SP> and thus the holding circuit of the relay R which then opens the contacts f, g and the feed is stopped after the predetermined movement selected by the selector switch S. Long feeds may be effected by de-clutching the solenoid controlled feed and clutching the motor direct to the feed tractors.
