Abstract

869,752. Retreading tyres. NOWAK, B. Sept. 3, 1957 [Sept. 4, 1956], No. 27713/57. Class 144 (2). A pre-formed tread strip for retreading tyres comprises a profiled outer tread 1 of vulcanized rubber with a bonding layer 5 of accelerator-free unvulcanized cushion rubber bonded to its roughened inner face 4 by an accelerator-free rubber solution, the exposed face of the layer 5 being covered by a removable protective layer 6 of impregnated paper or the like, and said layer 5 containing 4 to 6% by weight of sulphur. In use, rubber solution containing accelerators is coated over the prepared surface of a tyre to be retreaded, and/or on the exposed surface of the cushion layer 5 after the protective covering 6 has been removed, the tread strip then being applied to the tyre and the assembly heated to between 60‹ and 150‹ C. for about 3-4 hours to effect vulcanization of the cushion layer 5.
