Abstract

Compounds having the general formula: <FORM:0869086/IV (a)/1> in which x is an integer, n is an integer of 3-8 and m is an integer of 10-20, which are used in the antistatic treatment of polyamide fibres (see Group IV(c) ), are prepared by reacting 1 mol. of a meta-phosphoric acid alkyl ester in which the alkyl radical contains 3-8 carbon atoms with 1 mol. of a polyethylene glycol, which may have a molecular weight of 100-1000, and reacting the alkyl polyoxyethylene ortho phosphoric acid ester thus obtained with an alkylamine containing 10-20 carbon atoms. Specified compounds are those obtained by reacting metaphosphoric acid butyl ester with a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of 200 or 600 and then treating with stearyl amine. The products are soluble in alcohol or benzene and may be soluble in water. Specification 845,688 is referred to.ALSO:Compounds having the general formula: <FORM:0869086/IV (b)/1> in which x is an integer, n is an integer of 3-8 and m is an integer of 10-20, which are used in the antistatic treatment of polyamide fibres (see Group IV(c)), are prepared by reacting 1 mol of a meta-phosphoric acid alkyl ester in which the alkyl radical contains 3-8 carbon atoms with 1 mol of a polyethylene glycol, which may have a molecular weight of 100-1000, and reacting the alkyl polyoxyethylene orthophosphoric acid ester thus obtained with an alkylamine containing 10-20 carbon atoms. Specified compounds are those obtained by reacting metaphosphoric acid butyl ester with a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of 200 or 600 and then treating with stearylamine. Specification 845,688 is referred to.ALSO:The tendency of polyamide fibres and filaments to become electrostatically charged is reduced by treating them with a solution or aqueous dispersion of a compound having the general formula:- <FORM:0869086/IV(c)/1> in which x is an integer, n is an integer from 3 to 8 and m is an integer from 10 to 20. The compounds may be prepared by reacting 1 mol of a metaphosphoric acid alkyl ester in which the alkyl radical contains from 3 to 8 carbon atoms with 1 mol of a polyethylene glycol, which may have a molecular weight of from 100 to 1000, and reacting the alkyl polyoxyethylene orthophosphoric acid ester thus obtained with an alkylamine containing 10-20 carbon atoms. The compounds may be applied as aqueous solutions or dispersions or solutions in benzene or alcohols at a concentration and in a manner such that, after squeezing, 0,1% by weight of the compound remains on the finished fibres. Specification 845,688 is referred to.
