Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula: <FORM:0868910/IV (b)/1> where X and Y are chlorine or hydrogen atoms and R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. The compounds may be prepared by addition of the appropriate tetra-, penta- or hexachloro-cyclopentadiene to vinyl acetylene or isopropenyl acetylene. In a example an excess of hexachlorocyclopentadiene is heated at 85-90 DEG C. with isopropenyl acetylene in the presence of CaCO3 and phenoxypropylene oxide to give 5-ethynyl-5-methyl-1,2,3,4,7,7,-hexachlorobicyclo-(2,2,1) -2-heptene. Other products are mentioned.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions comprise an inert carrier and a toxic amount of a compound of the formula <FORM:0868910/VI/1> where X and Y are hydrogen or chlorine atoms and R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. The compositions may be in solid or liquid form using any of the usual inert carriers and the liquid compositions may also contain the usual surfactants. Other pesticides as well as such substances such as fertilizers, activators, adhesives, and spreaders can be added to the formulations if desired. Examples describe an emulsifiable concentrate in kerosene, a wettable powder and an oil-dispersible powder using fuller's earth, a dust using talc and a granular formulation using fuller's earth with dextrin as binding agent.
