Abstract

868,313. Spreading sand. SMITH CO., T. L. April 9, 1958 [May 23, 1957], No. 11167/58. Class 6(1). A sand spreader for attachment to the rear end of a truck comprises a hopper 46 which receives sand from a drum on the truck and a rotatable spinner 66 driven by means of a hydraulic motor 50 for distributing the sand. The motor 50 also drives a spiral feed bar 58 which is mounted on the same shaft 52 as the spinner 66. The bottom opening of the hopper 46 is provided with adjustable shutters 60. The spreader is hooked on to bolts 39 and is secured by bolts 42 so that the spreader can be removed from the truck. The spreader is preferably attached to a truck mixer provided with a drum which can be rotated in one direction to mix the contents of the drum and may be rotated in the other direction to discharge the contents of the drum through a shoot 34.
