[Also in Group XXV] A pair of cutting pliers or similar tool has a pivot bolt comprising a shank 511 fixed in one arm 1 and a conical head 5<SP>1</SP> rotatably received in a complementary recess 10 in the other arm 2, the head having radial slots 9 and an axially situated conical passage 11 engaged by the conical head 12 of a set screw and the shank having a threaded bore 14 engaged by the threaded shank 13 of the set screw. By adjusting the set screw the head 5<SP>1</SP> of the pivot bolt may be expanded to vary the friction of the joint. The shank 5<SP>11</SP> of the pivot bolt is externally screw-threaded, the end 8 being peened or rivetted to fix the bolt to the arm 1.
