Abstract
865,547. Joint-making packing. PARKERHANNIFIN CORPORATION. July 14, 1958 [July 15, 1957], No. 22522/58. Class 122 (3). A seal for a faced part 26, Fig. 3, comprises a metal or other rigid ring 10 formed with a continuous groove 14 containing a packing-member 12 of synthetic rubber or other resilient deformable material having projections 16, 18, Fig..1, separated by a channel 22, the total volume of the projections above the ring face 20 being slightly less than the volume of the channel 22 below the face 20 so that, in use (Fig. 3), the projections are deformed entirely into the channel and separated by a small central void 30. The packing-member is pressure-moulded into the groove. In a modification, Fig. 5, for use between mating parts, such as pipe flanges, two packing-members 40, 42 are moulded in grooves 44, 46, in a plate 48 and interconnected during moulding through holes (not shown) between the grooves.
