Class 17(3) A metal heel protector 1, for use particularly on metal heels having a wooden core, is shaped to the cross-section of the heel and provided with a central tapered bore 2 the sides of which taper towards the shoe, and is attached to the heel by nails 8 passing through a frusto-conical plug 6 of synthetic material which is pressed into the bore and secured against angular displacement by radially directed teeth 7 on the wall of the conical bore.
