Abstract

864,913. Electric light fittings. ROBBINS & BRADLEY, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1959 [Sept. 29, 1958], No. 31013/58. Classes 75(2) and 75(3). [Also in Group XXV] An electric light fitting comprises a base part for securing to a ceiling or wall surface and a bowl with an inwardly projecting rim flange which is secured to the base part by a retaining element consisting of an arm pivoted on the base part so as to be movable from an upstanding position to one in which it engages beneath the rim of the bowl, the arm having a laterally projecting finger in position to engage the rim when the arm is upstanding, pressure on the finger causing the arm to move to retaining position under the action of an over-centre spring. Two or more retaining elements may be arranged at evenly spaced points around the base or a hook or the like may be arranged on one side of the base diametrically opposite to a single retaining device. In the form shown, the base 1 has an upstanding rim 2 ending in a flange 2a and is provided with slots 3 in which leaf springs 10 are arranged. An arm 7, which may be covered by a sheath 16 of resilient material, is pivoted on a hinge pin 6 at the mouth of each slot. The opposite end of the arm 7 is divided into two fingers 8 projecting at right angles to the arm and a centre portion 9a, 9b folded back to engage the spring 10. Pressure from the rim 15a of the bowl on the fingers 8 causes the arm to snap into retaining position under the action of the spring. The flange 2a of the base may also be provided with a layer of resilient material.
