Abstract

864,028. Propelling aircraft. BERTIN ET CIE. June 24, 1957 [June 25, 1956], No. 19797/57. Addition to 825,957. Class 4. [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] A thrust augmenter for a vertical lift propulsion device comprises a convergent duct 1 which terminates in a neck 2 surrounded by an annular slot 3 formed by an annular duct 4. Duct 1 is attached as by arms 6 to a convergent-divergent duct 5 and in operation a fluid is passed into duct 4 and ejected as a thin annular divergent jet which induces and channels a flow through duct 1. The arrangement of duct 5 is such that it forms a solid continuation of the fluid jet from the point F at which the jet loses its momentum and effectiveness. In a further embodiment the fluid jet is liquid and duct 5 is so shaped that it acts as a collector for the liquid which is then pumped back to duct 4.
