[Also in Group XXXIII] Means for carrying and loading a boat 16, Fig. 1, or other load, on the roof 7 of a road vehicle comprises a rack 1 secured on the roof and a rack 17 which receives the boat or other load and can pivot on rollers 22 on the rack 1, when the rack 17 is moved from the position shown in full lines to the position shown in dotted lines, in which it is supported by the rack 1 and secured by ropes 250. Referring to Fig. 2, the rack 1 comprises a pair of transverse bearers 3 connected by bolts 4 to longitudinal bearers 2, the bolts having clips 5 connected to the vehicle roof and the bearers 3 having suction pads 9 to engage the roof. Brackets 13 on each bearer 3 carry rollers 14 on which the side members 18 of the rack 17 may be moved. At the front ends the members 18 have hooks 22, to engage round the rear rollers 14 when the rack 17 is inclined, and at the rear ends, have wheels 24 to engage the ground and a stop 221 to hold the boat. In the transport position notched members on the members 18 engage over the rear rollers 14. As shown in Fig. 4 the rack 17 can be fitted with an axle 27 and wheels 28 whereby it can be used for launching the boat, the axle being secured to the members 18 by clips 30 and bolts 31. Alternatively each member 18 may have a fixed stub axle or the axle 27 may be permanently fixed to the rack and the wheels readily removable from the axle. Rubber pads 25 are provided on the members 18 to protect the boat.
