Abstract

863,647. Welding by fusion. PARSONS & CO. Ltd., C. A. March 26, 1959 [April 23, 1958], No. 12918/58. Class 83 (4). In a seal welded flanged joint, recesses formed one in each of the flanges on the periphery thereof form a channel in which is fitted a removable U -section member, the depth of which in the radial direction is less than that of the channel, the walls of the flanges forming the channel extending in a radially outward direction beyond the legs of the U-section member, and a seal weld is formed between an outer face of each leg of the U -section member and the side of the channel. The joint, for ducts, pipes &c. is formed between flanges 1, 2 having recesses forming a channel 3. A flexible U-shaped ring 4 is inserted in the channel and welded to the flanges at 5a, 5b. To open the joint a grindstone or cutter with the same face width as the width of the ring is used to remove the welds.
