Abstract
863,157. Automatic lathes. USINES TORNOS FABRIQUE DE MACHINES MOUTIER S.A. Aug. 7, 1957 [Aug. 15, 1956], No. 24854/57. Class 83 (3). An automatic lathe comprises a first headstock adapted to rotate and feed bar-stock and having machining tools arranged to operate on the stock, including a cutting-off tool to sever a workpiece, a second headstock arranged to take the front end of the severed workpiece, with at least one tool operating in conjunction therewith, and automatically controlled transfer means for moving a workpiece from the first to the second headstock. The first headstock 1, Fig. 2, carries a rotated stock-bar 3 which is guided at the front in a fixed rest 4 while the headstock is moved to turn the stock. The tools 14, 15, Fig. 1, for turning the stock and for parting, are arranged fanwise and controlled by cams 11 on a first cam-shaft 9. The latter is driven by worm-gears 7, 8, Fig. 2, from a pulley 5 and cross-shaft 6. The same shaft drives, through worm-gearing 7, 8, a second cam-shaft 10 which controls the tool operation for the second headstock. An indexible turret 19 is provided with axially fed end-working tools 18, 18a, 18b for the first headstock position. The second headstock 40 is arranged parallel to the first but reversed so that a cam-operated transfer arm 28 may convey the workpiece from headstock 1 to headstock 40. A second indexible turret 41 with end-working tools 42, 42a, 42b operates on the newly exposed end of the workpiece and is controlled by the camshaft 10. The tools in the turrets are axially fed by cams on the shafts 9, 10, and lever mechanism 21, 48, respectively. The finished workpiece is finally removed from the chuck 39 of headstock 40.
