Abstract

861,983. Foam materials. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. July 8, 1957 [Oct. 9, 1956], No. 30698/56. Class 52(4). [Also in Groups XVII and XXI] A collapsible and inflatable foam material comprises an air-impermeable skin housing a core of flexible material having at least a partially intercommunicating cellular structure, and means through which a gaseous medium can be evacuated from or admitted to the structure to vary the volume thereof. As described the material comprises a core of resilient polyurethane foam, # inch thick, sealed within a skin of flexible polyvinyl chloride composition sheeting, the core being either unattached within or bonded to the skin. When evacuated the material is reduced to about one eighth of its thickness. The material may be used for immersion suits for submarine personnel and aircrews, foam filled bed covers, pillows, cushions or the like.
