861,589. Endless conveyers. GEOFFRAY, H. F. Jan. 26, 1959 [Feb. 21, 1958; Aug. 29, 1958], No. 2769/59. Class 78 (1). In an endless conveyer comprising a pair of laterally-spaced, endless cables 4, 5 extending alongside a frame, spaced apart transverse battens 2 are attached to the cables by elements 3 consisting of hooks having spikes which engage the material to be conveyed, e.g. agricultural produce. As shown, Fig. 1, the hooks 3 engage the material in a feed hopper C, and after performing their conveying function are withdrawn from the material by sinking into longitudinal grooves 11 of a head drum 10 over which the material is discharged. The battens 2, sliding over runners 16 on the floor 14 of the upper run and sliding on runners 17 on the return run, are engaged and driven by notched pulleys 7, 9 situated. at either end of the frame. The battens may be of metal, wood, plastic, or wood covered with metal, and the cables may be sheathed. in a plastic material. For easy replacement, the battens may comprise two longitudinal parts joined by rivets or bolts.
