Abstract
The invention comprises fluoro-phenarsazines of the general formula <FORM:0861500/IV (b)/1> where R is hydrogen or alkyl, and the radicals X1-X8 are each hydrogen or halogen or hydroxyl, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, carboxyl or nitro groups. These compounds are prepared by reacting the corresponding chloro-, bromo- or iodo-compounds with aqueous sodium hydroxide, and treating the resulting 5 : 10-dihydro - phenarsazine - 10 - oxide with hydrogen fluoride.ALSO:The invention comprises anti-fouling paints containing as anti-fouling constituent a compound of formula <FORM:0861500/III/1> where R is hydrogen or alkyl, and each X radical is hydrogen, halogen, hydroxyl, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, carboxyl or nitro. Suitable vehicles for the paints include oleoresinous varnish, tar varnish, pitch varnish and natural and synthetic resin varnish and their emulsions. One or more pigments and/or other anti-fouling constituents may be present.
