Abstract

861,295. Rasping tyres. KENT, J. H. F. April 29, 1959 [Jan. 31, 1958], No. 3320/58. Class 31 (1). A machine for rasping the tread of a tyre prior to re-treading comprises a table B having a cylinder A on which a tyre T is supported, and a motor-driven rasp E mounted to revolve about an axis Y-Y arranged at an acute angle to the axis of rotation X-X of the cylinder A, the table B being fast with a feed-screw C mounted in a threaded aperture in a fixed base-plate D so that by rotating the table B it can be moved axially until the tyre tread contacts the rasp whereafter the movement of the tyre across the face of the rasp is automatically brought about by the action of the feed-screw as the rasp is caused to revolve. The cylinder A is provided with a slot S to accommodate the valve V of the tyre inner tube or other inflatable bag. The screw C may be unlocked from the table B to allow free rotation of the tyre. The cylinder A, which may be detachably secured to the table B, may be of sufficient length to accommodate a batch of tyres to be rasped simultaneously. The tyre may, alternatively, be supported in a vertical position.
