Coffee beverage is produced by supplying hot water to an impeller having an annular chamber, formed by concentric strainers, to receive coffee grounds. As shown, motor 64 drives a shaft 63 carrying a bottom disc 62 whose hub 62a has a cross-spline 65 extending through a groove 63a in the top of shaft 63. A top disc 61 is slipped over a hub 66 screwed on to a hub 62a and is held by a hand wheel 67. Strainers 68, 69 are secured between discs 61 and 62, a packing 71 being provided on disc 61. A lip 61a on disc 61 encircles strainer 68 to divert the infusion into a channel 73, formed in casing 72, from which it is discharged through conduit 74. The casing 72 has a hood 75 connected thereto by a hinge 77. Hot water is supplied through a cock in hinge 77 to a pipe 78 opening into the bore 66a of hub 66 which opens through ports 66b into the space 85 inside strainer 69. The cock is closed when hood 75 is lifted. A bed-plate 80 beneath the rotor encloses a heating resistor 81 embedded in a filling 82. Exchangeable strainers of various heights may be provided. In a modification, hood 75 is mounted for rotation and axial vertical displacement in a flanged bush 87 secured to a bed-plate 88 fast with casing 72. A tongue 86b on support 86 engages a notch 87a in bush 87 to locate the hood accurately. An implement is provided for filling the annular chamber.
