Abstract

859,704. Magnetic pulse-storage circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 1, 1958 [Aug. 7, 1957], No.24872/57. Class 40 (9). [Also in Group XXXV] An information storage element comprises two flat spaced films of single domain magnetic material having aligned oriented switching directions. The magnetic films are of the order of 3000 Angstrom units thick, and may be composed of 80-20 Ni-Fe deposited by an evaporation process on to a suitable, e.g. glass, substrate while subjected to a polarizing field. As shown in Fig. 1 (Provisional), input and output wires 14, 15 are positioned between magnetic films 10, 11 deposited on substrates 12, 13. A " 1 " is stored, magnetically in the device by a pulse of one polarity in wire 14 and is read-out by a pulse of opposite polarity. The air coupling between the two wires may be neutralized to eliminate spurious voltages by arranging the two wires to have an opposing mutual inductance coupling outside the region of the films, Fig. 5 (Provisional). A number of storage elements 20 may be arranged as shown in Fig. 1 (Complete) to form a storage matrix with column and row wires 23, 28, information being stored by coincidentally applying " half write " pulses to selected row and column wires, and the stored information being subsequently read out by a " full read " pulse applied to each row wire in turn. Constructional details are outlined in Fig. 2 (Complete) in which a coordinated pattern of films (not shown) is deposited on each of two bases 21, 22, and the row and column wires (not shown) are positioned between dielectric sheets 24, 25 and 25, 29, respectively. The wires may alternatively be printed on both sides of sheet 25 or on single surfaces of sheets 24 and 25. Specification 796,488 is referred to.
