Abstract

An apparatus for mixing and spraying liquid reactants, especially for silvering and reducing solutions, or for partially polymerized <PICT:0859688/III/1> resin and catalyst solution which inter-act to produce hardened resin, has a mixing chamber 1 into which the liquids to be mixed are introduced under pressure through symmetrically disposed conduits 2 and nozzles 14, and compressed air through a conduit 18. The liquids impinge on the surface of a bed of stainless steel wool 4 which provides a mass of fibrous passages in which the liquids intermix and which hold them in contact for a predetermined time before they are expelled as a spray through the orifices 6 and nozzles 14a. The proportions of the liquids are determined by suitably selecting the sizes of the nozzles 14. The time during which the liquids are held in contact in the mixing chamber may, for a given pressure, be changed by changing the dimensions of the fibrous passages as by replacing the stainless steel wool by small glass balls. The apparatus may be held in the hand or be secured to a support 24, Fig. 2 (not shown) arranged to traverse the surface to be coated and to hold the spray or a suitable fixed angle to it.
