Abstract

858,476. Valves. NEW YORK AIR BRAKE CO. May 19, 1959 [Sept. 15, 1958], No. 16925/59. Class 135. A valve suitable for controlling a differential-area piston motor 52 for positioning the earth moving blade of a bulldozer comprises a movable closure member 33 having a neutral position in which a pump connected to an inlet 12 is unloaded by being connected through ports 21, 23 and port 22 communicating with an exhaust 13 whilst connections 53, 54 to the two sides of the motor 52 are isolated. When the closure member is moved to the right from the neutral position the communication between the ports 12, 13 is interrupted and pressure fluid is delivered from port 21 to the port 18 communicating with the lower side of the motor 52. A parallel path of fluid to the motor is also provided through the inlet port 23, a port 24, and a passage 31 interconnecting the port 24 with a port 19. The upper side of the motor is exhausted to a port 26 through the motor port 25 and a reduced portion 37 of the closure member between lands 42, 43. When the closure member is moved to the left from the neutral position the connections to the motor are reversed. The closure member can be moved further to the left, corresponding to engagement of a spring-loaded detent 44 with a recess 45, to the position shown in Fig. 5 in which communication between the motor port 18 and exhaust through a port- 17 is interrupted by a land 39, the port 19 is isolated from the inlet, and the two ends of the motor are interconnected by the passage 31 allowing the motor to float whilst being in communication with the inlet and exhaust. The closure member may be moved slightly further to the left until it abuts a stop 51 when the land 42 will restrict the communication of the inlet and the motor ports with exhaust. The inlet to the valve is provided with a pressure relief valve 32. Specification 838,686 is referred to.
