Abstract

A plastic composition comprises a butadieneacrylonitrile elastomer having a methyl ethyl ketone-insoluble gel content below 35% blended with, as the sole resinous component of the composition, a rigid interpolymer formed by copolymerizing one or more alkyl-substituted styrenes with acrylonitrile, the amount of the elastomer being not more than 40% by weight of the composition. Alkyl styrenes specified are alpha-methyl styrene and nuclear alkyl derivatives thereof, o-methyl, o-isopropyl, p-isopropyl, o-tert. butyl and p-tert. butyl styrenes and isomeric mixtures of methyl, isopropyl and tert. butyl styrenes, dimethyl styrenes in which one of the methyl groups is in the o-position with respect to the vinyl group, isomeric mixtures of p dimethyl styrenes; diisopropyl styrenes and ditert. butyl styrenes. The elastomer may be treated by hot milling prior to blending. Blending may be effected by mechanically mixing the polymeric materials or by co-coagulation of mixed latices of the elastomer and the interpolymer.
