Abstract

858,182. Drying apparatus. BOEHLER, M., and WEBER, F., [trading as BOEHLER & WEBER KOMM.-GES.]. Aug. 8, 1958 [June 4, 1958], No. 25448/58. Addition to 857,445. Class 34(2) The coniform deflecting surface for drying air formed by the frame of the charging door in the apparatus of the parent Specification is here modified to take the form of an undulating surface or raised shoulder 8<SP>1</SP> (see Fig. 1); as a result the drying air issuing from branch pipe 6 is deflected outwardly from the axial line of drum 1 towards the periphery, instead of only being deflected axially into the drum, thereby preventing losses by splashing. In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 and 5, two branch pipes 6 and 6a are shown. The air issuing from pipe 6 passes through the system of slots 12 described in the parent Specification, but this system may be replaced by extending the branch pipe, as with pipe 6a, to a point closer to the deflecting surface 8<SP>1</SP> and building flange 21 so as nearly to meet pipe 6a. As shown in Fig. 9 the deflecting surfaces or depressions 19 are so arranged that as the drum rotates, carrying the articles being cleaned in a clockwise direction the air issuing from branch pipes 6, 6a meets the articles at the start of their fall, it then being easier to tumble the articles. In Fig. 6, a further embodiment is shown, wherein by means of valve 24, solvent through pipe 5a and branch 6a or drying air, through pipe 5 and branch 6 may both be supplied to the drum, axially through common branch pipe 6<SP>1</SP>, and radially.
