Abstract

858,153. Sockets. HUMBERG, W. Oct. 19, 1959 [March 16, 1959], No. 35404/59. Class 83 (3). A drill &c. socket comprises a body 10 with an axial-bore 11 providing a shoulder 18 to support an elastically-yieldable sleeve 3, e.g. of rubber, the resulting chamber 12 being vented to atmosphere by at least one bore 17. The sleeve is axially-compressed by a nut 5 screwed to the body, thus expanding the sleeve radially against the bore-well and a shank 14 of a tool to be held by the socket. Centring washers 2, 15 may be vulcanized on opposite ends of the sleeve.
