Abstract

Phenothiazines of the general formula: <FORM:0857418/IV(b)/1> and their acid addition salts, are prepared by Wolff-Kishner reduction of either compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0857418/IV(b)/2> or of compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0857418/IV(b)/3> followed by introduction of the residue ANR1 R2 into the 10 position of the 3-alkyl phenothiazine so formed. A representing a possibly branched alkylene chain, R1 and R2 alkyl groups, Y a possibly branched alkyl group of at least 2 carbon atoms or an aralkyl group and Z an aliphatic or araliphatic acyl group.
