Abstract

856,745. Rectilinear - motion bearings. TOWNSEND, C. M., and AUTOSET (PRODUCTION) Ltd. Aug. 5, 1958 [May 18, 1957], No. 15856/57. Class 12 (1). In a bearing of the ball-castor type, the loadcarrying ball 7 is supported by ball-bearings 13 in an endless track formed by the assembly of two housings 15, 6 and a hemispherical partition 16. The ball-bearings are arranged above and below the partition 16 so that only a proportion of them are in contact with the load-carrying ball at any given instant and each circulates within the endless track as the load ball rotates. Preferably the partition 16 is provided with a threaded neck 17 which is attached to the housing 15 by a nut 18, and the other housing 6. carries a sealing ring 22 to exclude dust from the bearing surfaces. The invention is applicable also to load-carrying rollers.
