Abstract
856,144. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. MOOG SERVOCONTROLS Inc., [formerly MOOG VALVE CO. Inc.]. Feb. 12, 1957 [Feb. 13, 1956], No. 4753/57. Class 135. A valve suitable for controlling an hydraulic servomotor 20 comprises a spool 21 under the control of a first hydraulic arrangement which responds to a control input and produces an output pressure differential to which a second hydraulic arrangement responds to apply an equivalent differential to the ends of the spool. The first hydraulic arrangement, in the embodiment described, consists of a movable flapper 33 coacting with a pair of nozzles 34, 35 and mounted in a flexible tube 37 for operation by electromagnetic input means 31, any deflection of the flapper from a neutral position resulting in a change of hydraulic pressure on the upstream side of the nozzles. The nozzles are connected through conduits 38, 39 and restrictions 41 with a conduit 40 leading from a pressure supply connection 15, and conduits 48, 48a lead from the conduits 38, 39 between the restrictions and the nozzles to chambers in the second hydraulic arrangement which consists of a pair of valve members 47. Each of these valve members consists of a pair of lands controlling ports 49, 50 and an intermediate, reduced portion connected by a passage 56 with a chamber at the end of the valve member remote from the connection with the corresponding nozzle. Each port 50 leads to a drain connection 16 and each port 49 leads to the pressure supply 15. The main spool 21 is centralized by springs 25 one of which is adjustable by a screw 26. When the flapper 33 is deflected the pressure on the upstream side of one of the nozzles increases to move the corresponding valve member 47 outwardly whilst the pressure on the upstream side of the other nozzle is reduced to cause the corresponding valve member 47 to move inwardly. The valve member 47 that moves outwardly connects a corresponding chamber 27 at one end of the spool 21 with pressure fluid through the port 49 and a passage 53 whilst the other valve member 47 connects a chamber at the other end of the spool 21 to drain. The changes in pressures in the chambers 27 are transmitted through the passages 56 to chambers at the outer ends of the valve members 47 whereby these members are returned to their neutral positions when the pressures in the chambers 27 correspond with those on the upstream sides of the nozzles 34, 35 resulting in the spool 21 being deflected by an amount related to the value of the electrical signal fed into the input means 31. Specification 854,287 is referred to.
