Abstract

855,319. Rail track ballast cleaning machines; endless conveyers. PLASSER, F.,and THEURER, J. Sept. 12, 1958 [Sept. 12, 1957], No. 29298/58. Classes 78 (1) and 104 (2). A mobile machine for collecting and distributing ballast has at least two endless bucket conveyers 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, one on either side of the machine, which are pivotable vertically and laterally so that the lower ends pass over the lateral ports of the permanent way. The conveyers individually rotate on pivots 5<SP>1</SP> on a carrier 5 on the chassis by adjusting links 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, and 11<SP>11</SP>. Belt drives 12, 12<SP>1</SP> driven by the motor operate the conveyer chains. The conveyers discharge the ballast into hoppers 13, 13<SP>1</SP> which deposit on to a central conveyer belt 14 delivering to a hopper 15 with four outlets 15<SP>1</SP> releasing the ballast to both sides of and beneath the rails. The hopper outlets rise above the rails to negotiate points, crossings or the like by operating an hydraulic linkage 17 connected to a pivoting frame 16 to which the hopper is secured. The buckets have a rear wall secured to the chain and lying in the plane of the chain and a dished front wall pivoting on an adjacent link of the chain to automatically discharge the contents of the buckets at the top of the conveyer. A tamping-plate and cleaning screens are provided. The outlets of the hoppers may be adjusted by remote control and fixed or shaking screens may be mounted in the hoppers. The tamping-plate is situated behind the bucket conveyers with the lower end outside the sleeper ends.
