Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula : <FORM:0852971/IV(b)/1> wherein R1, R2 and R3, which may be the same or different, each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy radical containing not more than three carbon atoms, a nitro group or an amino group, and n is an integer from 1 to 3, and acid-addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, and the preparation thereof by reacting compounds of the formula : <FORM:0852971/IV(b)/2> with camphoric acid imide and reducing the product, or with camphidine, and, if desired, reducing a nitro substituted product to form a corresponding amino substituted product, and, if desired, converting the products of any of these processes into their acid-addition or quaternary ammonium salts, and the preparation of quaternary ammonium salts of the invention directly by reacting an N-alkyl-camphidine with a compound of the formula II. The products are central nervous system depressants. N-p-Chlorobenzyl-camphoric acid imide is prepared by treating camphoric acid imide with p-chlorobenzyl chloride.
