851,901. Coking coal. STEINMULLER G.m.b.H., L. & C. Jan. 18, 1957, No. 1897/57. Class 55 (1). In a method of degasifying powdered coal in suspension in a gas, the coal is fed axially downwards in the form of a jet into a conical or cylindrical chamber and a hot supporting gas is blown upwards, the resultant gases being led off at several places around the root of the jet. The supporting gas may be injected axially at the lower end and the coke dust extracted in a zone surrounding the gas inlet. Supporting gas may be added at various heights of the chamber, that at the higher level being introduced tangentially and that which is provided at the upper quarter or third being at such a pressure that it forms a protective screen for the wall of the chamber.
