A lid for a milk pail which is filled under a vacuum comprises a cover plate 1, a resilient gasket 3 having a depending spigot 3A to locate the lid on the can and pins 2 fixed to the cover plate so that they protrude through holes 3D in the gasket, the pins having an enlarged head 2B and a shank 2A longer than the thickness of the gasket so that the gasket may be displaced for cleaning.
