Abstract

851,404. Stereoscopic apparatus. KODAK Ltd. Oct. 23, 1956 [Oct. 24, 1955], No. 32348/56. Class 97(1). In a stereo viewer in which stereo transparencies carried in a mount with their centres about 2¢ inches apart are projected on to a screen for viewing without the use of special glasses by the viewer, to allow the images to the viewer over a wider angle, the screen is so formed as to spread the light passing therethrough in such a manner that each point of light is diverged into a solid cone of light having a half angle of about 3 degrees at which angle the intensity is less than 50% of maximum, and a positive field lens is placed near the screen having a focal length equal to about ¢ to 2/3 times the distance of the field lens from.the two projection objectives. The screen may be a modified form of the cone screen described in Specification 706,741 or may be found by guiding one surface of a glass plate and coating the ground surface with a transparent layer of refractive index different from that of the sheet by between 0À02 and 0À2. As shown the viewer comprises a housing 54 for a lamp illuminating the transparencies 53 and projection lenses 56 forming superposed images on a cone screen 58 by way of mirror 57. A positive Fresnd lens 60 is placed close to the screen. The lens 60 may be a simple biconvex lens suitably placed screens may be provided to assist the corect location of the eyes.
