Abstract
851,320. Making hollow ware; altering physical structure. AVESTA JERNVERKS A.B. Aug. 15, 1958 [Aug. 16, 1957], No. 26338/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). In the making of pressure vessels hydraulic or pneumatic pressure is applied within the vessel, at a temperature below the recrystallization point of the material, to cause a permanent set and increase the mechanical strength, the material of the vessel having austenite as an essential constituent, and the pressure being applied under conditions permitting free expansion of the vessel. A stainless steel container is composed of two domed end walls 10, 11 and an all-welded cylindrical shell 12. Cylindrical pipe sockets 13, 14, 15, 16 and a plate 19 considerably thicker than the plates of the container are welded into the container and the sockets are provisionally sealed by domed covers 18. A connection 17 for water under pressure is provided in one cover 18. After the cold stretching of the container pipes are welded to the sockets and a manhole fitting to an opening cut out of the plate 19. In the example shown the material initially had a yield point of 25 kg./mm.<2> and under the pressure of water a permanent set of 2.3% and an increase in the yield point of 7.5 kg./mm.<2> was obtained.
