Abstract

849,947. Supply systems for discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. March 26, 1959 [April 1, 1958], No. 10458/58. Class 38 (4). In order to facilitate the starting of an electric discharge lamp 1 the potential gradient between one of the lamp electrodes 2 and an earthed metal starting electrode 3 is increased by connecting the starting electrode 3 to the junction between a half-wave rectifier 7 and a capacitor 8, which are serially connected in shunt with the lamp discharge path. A leak resistor 10 may be connected across the capacitor 8. The lamp may be provided with heatable electrodes. The lamp fitting may be used for the metal starting electrode.
